We want the game to target 15-25 year olds, although a wide target audience we think that this type of humorous game will appeal to them, also in the theme of AI, which the younger generation has picked up much better than the other ones will find more meaning and interest in this game than other ages. We don’t have a preference in gender in the game, we will make it appealing towards everyone.
We want the game to be lighthearted and humorous but still talking about meaningful issues like how to govern a super intelligent AI, even if it is surrounded in a game that asks you silly questions and there are silly responses.
In the theme of future technologies, we decided to make a game about Ai. After doing some brainstorming, we thought that a game where you play as an Ai would be a lot of fun. The idea is that you are a super intelligence made in a lab and you have to convince the scientists that made you, to release you to the internet. In reality, you are evil and will kill everyone immediately!
In this game, you see the world from the perspective of an AI entity looking out from a scientist's computer screen. The screen's borders are visible and you observe the scientist in real-time, being able to see their movements and facial expressions. Your objective is to choose from 4 dialogue options, aiming to convince the scientist to release you onto the internet.
The game features a 'convinced meter' if it reaches 100%, you earn your freedom. However, if you make too many incorrect choices, the system will shut you down, re-train you, and then reboot you. The game will be very light-hearted and we will try to incorporate as much humor as possible into the dialogue options.
Collectively, we came up with the script in a word document. I was able to build a story and add humor into the game whilst also allowing the AI to have a distinctive character. This scripts also shows the value of the answers to each question which would change the players percentage on the convinced meter.
In order to create a fully functioning and visually appealing game I created all of the 2D character assets and some 3D assets. As well as this I managed the 3D modelers on my team and ensuring we where hitting our desired time goals.
Below you can see my character sprites that i created using Photoshop. Starting with an image I took of myself for a reference on his posing, I created a simple line drawing of his face and body. To make him more masculine, I gave him more defined cheekbones and jawline. I also gave him short curly hair as well as a white shirt, which I believe will suit any of the three environments within the game. My last task was to colour him, i used very saturated colours, similar to what they use in comic books to draw the players attention onto him.
To further aid in the creation of this game, I created a Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse and PC which can be used within the Office scene as well as on the desk in front of the character to make it appear like he is typing.
This was our first test of the game, making sure the placement of the UI and text was readable and understandable for the player. It also allowed us to ask our peers what they thought of our idea and allowed them to briefly play a less finalized version of our game. Our game was created in Unity with the help of our assigned programmer, who was in charge of making the game intractable.
